My J-POP and J-ROCK recommendation
I WONDER WHEN WILL I FINISH THIS LOR.
AND I WONDER ANYONE WILL READ LOR.
LOOK HOW BOLIAO AM I LOR.
Very tired...So just 10
Anyway not arranged in any order.
Disclamation: My command of English language is extremely horrible; it isn’t my mother tongue so please do not FLAME at me.
Well I started listening Japanese music in 2007 when I came across B’z on MTV, kind of late huh. I was immediately CAPTIVATED by their ultimate and wild energy and of course, my Japanese music obsession officially kicked off.
So here are some of my recommendations. As I am not really a big fan of JE, so I didn’t include them in my list since I know too little about them. Maybe what I recommend here may not be suitable for any Japanese music starters, but I wish if you ever read this, you will give a chance to all these tracks I’ve listed. They are all good.
1. DEEP KISS / B’zWell, I guess this is not their most famous one (now their most famous one is Ichibu to Zenbu LOL), but this is a song that really shows how fantastic this legendary J-ROCK band that debuted in 1988 with a total sales of 80 millions in Japan alone is. Tak’s guitar solo and Koshi’s signature shouts in this track are definitely amazing. It was released in 1997, a year where their hidden talents got a chance to shine free and unrestrained.
2. Sotsugyo / Yutaka OzakiOne of the most respected singers in the history (referring to Japan…)
He is signified as the spirit of the young. He has not been forgotten despite his death in 1992. I love the way that his lyrics are written, I love the way how he performs on stage. This is one of his most controversial songs in the conservative 80s since it is about rebellion(?). If you have a chance, watch any live of his, you will be touched by his ALL-OUT performance.
3. Ginga / FujifabricThe PV is kinda surreal. Okay this is not my point.
Actually they don’t really stand out in the midst of bands like Baseball bear and School food punishment since they are very similar in terms of style, all very British Rock-influenced. But this song is definitely a masterpiece. The retro melody blended with the surrealism of the lyrics and the PV, interesting combination.
4. Lillies and Remains / Moralist S.S.A J-Rock band that debuted last year with this song.
In fact I was so shocked to know that it is actually a Japanese band...
Their style is very western-influenced, so kind of innovative(?), recommend to those who want something new.
5. Akuma / Kiyoshi RyuujinAn insanely talented young singer that started his music career when he was 16 and debuted in 2009 with the single "morning sun". This song was included in the Album "WORLD" which was released in 2010/2. It is a funky one, with catchy drum beats. The chorus at the end of the track is simply outstanding. Anyway I think his unique voice really brought life to his works.
6. bukiyou na joukei / SPANK PAGEA band that I can't find any information LOL.
There's nothing about them on Wikipedia. But so far from what I know, they are formed in 2004 and debuted in 2009. Their songs often reminded me of RADWIMPS, mellow and mysterious, probably Nakategawa (vo. of SP) sounded to similar to Noda (vo. of RADWIMPS).
7. Nijyuu-yon ji no laundry / Tomoyuki Nagasawa I fell in love with him immediately after listening to this song, and I bought his latest(?) mini album "silentsiren" although this song isn't included. His lyrics are good, very poetic. Somehow I really love mellow songs, not those ballads though. Again, I CANNOT FIND HIS INFO.
8. Give Me Body Sexy Body / URGH POLICEOkay I HAVE ENOUGH OF BANDS I CAN'T FIND ANYTHING ABOUT THEM.
Hard Rock band formed in 1983 but disbanded. In my opinion (one-sided LOL), I think J-Rock is the best in the 80s - 90s. It sounded very different from what Kazuya Yoshii (b. the composer of this song) is doing now.
9. Milky way / LOUDNESSDo I need to say more?
THE GREATEST METAL BAND IN THE 80s!
THIS SONG JUST FUCKING KICK ASS.
BUT SOME BRAIN-DEAD PEOPLE JUST DONT KNOW HOW TO APPRECIATE.
10. picture / Pay Money To My PainHard Rock Punk band debuted in 2004.
One thing I like about them is that they can have songs that are really extremely negative, yet can they can have this kind of songs that really makes people happy.
Not so fast tempo, but it is still good <3
